Sadie Coles HQ - Laura Owens
Her works displayed all have her qualities but are all very different as well making for a very interesting exhibition. Some of the smaller pieces featured in the second photograph are earlier pieces much less finely detailed and much smaller yet still have similar features to the newer and larger scale pieces.
All her pieces seem to have a bright colour pallet in common. As well as areas that are finely detailed like small areas of cross stitch but with paint. Especially in the first piece.
I love her work as it inspires my own paintings as I have almost always done 3D works but Owen's paintings incorporate both abstract and fine detailed paintings as well as mixed media and 3D works. Whether that includes using thick layers of paint to make give the pieces texture or using a bike wheel part to create a 3D focal point in the painting.
Owen's fine using of painting in areas and contrast of large blocks of colours creates strong layers and and textures in the piece. Often using large or small squares to create the election of pixels.
I thoroughly enjoyed Laura Owens' work and would like to refer back to it in order to inspire my own work, work I have already started creating inspired by her. She has inspired me to start painting, I have started with abstract and aim to work into detail later on and include 3D work in large scale.
