Decay Through Texture Unit 80
For Unit 80 we were asked to create a series of wabi-sabi inspired work inspired by Hilary Bower. Here I have presented my final piece.
Which presentation techniques have you selected?
After much careful consideration I have decided to place my larger final piece on a podium in front of a covered white wall so as not to show the back of my piece as it has irrelevant work on the other side. I have also decided to arrange items of rust on the podium at the base of my final piece to get a stronger feel for the sense of place of my primary sources.

What is the potential of these techniques?
The potential of using a podium allows my work to stand up above floor level and allowing better viewing access for my work. The white background takes away anything that may detract the eye from the fine detail and texture in my final body of work. I feel the use incorporating the rust used as focal points on the final piece on the podium and as a stand for one of my smaller pieces of work, works really well to tie all three pieces and the presentation of it together.

How do you plan to skilfully show how your development
investigations and enquiries have informed the realisation of your final piece?
I have evidently used a lot of techniques that I have thoroughly investigated in my developmental pieces in my final pieces. I did have the idea of presenting my developmental pieces around my final piece of the white board but I feel this would detract the eyes away from the fine detail in my final piece so I have decided to display them on a board next to my final body of work so it flows on to my final pieces.

Why are the selected presentation techniques appropriate
for your work?
I feel the presentation techniques I
have chosen work really well with my final body of work as it is such a big
piece and it needs to be displayed so that the length of the piece can be seen
and the work on the podium draws the eyes down to look at the smaller final
piece at the bottom and draws the eyes to see the bottom of my larger piece
which otherwise probably wouldn't be appreciated. My other smaller final piece
is in the middle of my larger piece at eye level, framed but not central so as
not to draw the eye straight to it away from the larger piece.
How does your selection of presentation techniques, mounting
and arrangement of your presentation demonstrate a sense of perception and
imagination?
I feel I have used a lot of imagination
in the presentation of my work in order to portray the strong feel of my
primary source location in my presentation. I feel I have created a piece of
work inspired by my primary source location and brought my primary source
location to it. I feel I have taken everything into consideration including the
placement of my smaller final piece on the at the bottom of my larger final
piece on the podium in order to attract attention to the bottom of my larger
piece of work and to the rust scattered on the podium in order to display a
strong sense of place. I feel the curvature of the final piece presented in the
middle of my larger final piece works really well because it removes the sense
of structure from the perfect right-angles of the larger final piece and gives
a stronger sense of place and unpredictable patina.
